Artist Statement
Helena Post - self taught fibre artist

Employing the ancient arts of spinning, weaving, crochet, knitting, wrapping and some unique techniques inspired from making it up as she went along, Helena uses fibre art to express her deep investigation into the great taboos of western society - Birth, Sex and Death - all initiatory, oxytocic and intense experiences, which shape us as humans, but which we don't often like to talk about.  Deeply bonding events, where everything else disappears, and only the experience exists.  When we are at our most intimate and vulnerable, our deep nature is unavoidable, and we can feel like the veil between our mundane reality and the spirit world grows thin.

She has the rare luxury of being able to craft her own palette, out of raw fibres from small breeder friends who love their creatures, her mans dyeing skills, a range of tools that are handcrafted, purchased and gifted, and tricky knacks both old and felt out.

Most excellently, all of these ancient arts are also profound forms of meditation, mindfullness and therapy, and a solid answer to the toxicity of the textile industry, in the form of slow fashion, the Bespoke and Makers Movements, and a step towards a sustainable textile future.

Another important aspect of her work results from her self taught forays into quantum physics and the metaphysical nature of the universe, which has led her to realising that everything is energy that remembers where it's been.   So the energetic memories of her handspun and crafted creations, are a world apart from the factory farmed and crafted textiles that we feel and drape on the biggest organ of our bodies - our skin.
